Twins vs. Dodgers tonight! Classic matchup.
I like watching the Twins play the Dodgers. Reminds me of watching old 1965 World Series footage.
I was lucky enough to go see the Twins Dodgers play each-other for the first time since the 65 series a few years back with my lifelong pal Mitch.
Actually my favorite piece of baseball memorabilia in my personal dugout is the 65 game 6 box seat ticket stub from my grandpa. That was the game Mudcat Grant nearly single-handedly won the game. He pitched a great game and hit a 3 run shot. I got Grant's autograph on the stub 2 years ago! Cant imagine what that is worth. (Doesn't matter it's not for sale.) The stub pictured is similar to mine and is going on ebay for over $100.
Go Twins let's get back to winning.

It's Dad's time!
Had a "Big Daddy Size" Dad's root beer for lunch today. One liter was more than enough to last until dinner.
It's funny, because I also have an old "Big Daddy" bottle of dads from the 60s and it's only 16 oz. Now the same product is a liter!
It used to be 12 oz. was a standard size bottle. Now the 20 oz seems to be the norm. We're such fatties.

Ugly memories.
The new Pixar Cars 2 movie is coming out next weekend. That's a big deal when you have 4 little kids running around the house. Leading up to the big day, the kids and I have been on the website several times, looking at the new car characters. One of them caught my eye. Grem, who appears to be a bad guy, is a mid 70s AMC Gremlin. He is also orange. This was cool for me because my grandpa had a mid 70s orange Gremlin. My dad tells me he had several, but I only remember the orange one. These hatchbacks were certainly among the ugliest cars ever built, but it sure took me back.

Straight-Up retro!
As 7up entered the late 60s and into the 70s it unveiled it's Uncola campaign and joined in on the funk.
It's not my favorite era of branding for the company, but it's still cool to have a part of it.
I ran across 2 more 7up crates at a garage sale this past weekend and picked them up. One was from the late 40s - 50s designs that I love, but the other was the one shown here.
I have a hand-full of the old fashioned steel sided pull tab 7up cans, so I'll leave them with this crate. Thought about selling this one, with the cans on ebay... but I'm having second thoughts.

Hills Bros Coffee
Got this cool old Hills Bros coffee can for Jamie's kitchen a week or two back. I love the crazy old "Taster" man in pajamas. The company actually has a great page that follows the history of the brand.

Rexall ghost sign
Last year I was able to gain access to the rooftop of one of the business buildings in Little Falls to shoot some great photos of this amazing old Rexall Drugs ghost sign. (Thanks to the folks at CGI downtown LF for the help!) The blue and orange signs have become a bit of an iconic vintage design.
Rexall began in 1902, and the brand name was licensed to as many as 12,000 drug stores across the United States from 1920 to 1977.
The company still operates primarily in Canada.

1960s Tudor "Tru•Action" Electric Baseball Game
I'm slowly posting photos of items that I've found over the years. One of my personal favorite finds was a 1960s Tudor "Tru•Action" Electric Baseball Game. Swiped it off one of the antique vendors in Crosby for $20. These metal/electric games were popular through the 50s and 60s. The one I've got is in mint condition and still has the box plus pieces!
Mighty snappy!
Digging through a stash of my old junk, I found 6 old 7up magazine ads. The oldest dating back to 1946. These ads are full of the cheesiest marketing lines! Amazing what they used to be able to put in ads. Who cares about facts, just print it. Get a load of this copy...
"Fresh up with Seven-Up! Enjoy sparkling, crystal-clear 7-Up . . . often. Seven-Up is so pure, so good, so wholesome that everybody- from tots to grandmas and all ages in between- may "fresh up" to his heart's content. Buy 7-Up where you see the bright 7-Up signs. The all-family drink!"

Smoking hot find!
I'm no smoker, but all I saw was $$$ when I picked up this classic sign. It is an original 1953 camel advertising sign. There is some rust here and there, but on the whole still a high quality sign. Colors are still bright as can be.
I stopped at a garage sale, the sign was tucked in the garage back behind a 1969 Ford Gran Torino. It was not part of the sale, but it never hurts to ask.
This will be an ebay item starting this next week!

Garage sale score!
My great wife found a hand-full of dandy old soda bottles at a garage sale this past week! DrPepper's advertising back in the day was great, they actually used to say that the Dr. prescribed a bottle at 10, 2, & 4 o'clock. Apparently you could get diabetes over the counter back then.
She also found me a Sprite, Teem, RC and a Dad's "Big Daddy" bottle. It's funny that a 16 oz bottle was considered an over-sized drink.
Thanks, Love

I like it, It likes me!
I've been collecting vintage 7up junk for around 10 years. Been waiting a long tome to get an old bottle crate at a decent price. Glad to have found one.
